Minister of Planning Inspires Cartographic Mappers ahead of 2021 Mid-Term Census

The Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Francis Kai-Kai, has today, paid an inspirational and spirited visit to the Cartographic Mapping Officers for the 2021 Mid-Term Population and Housing Census, during their training sessions conducted by Statistics Sierra Leone.

During the visit, the Minister expressed his delight in commencement of the training of cartographic mappers; congratulating the participants, who are part of the 1,200 shortlisted candidates selected for the nationwide exercise and for being part of such a landmark event that would kick start the actual Census process.

Dr. Kai-Kai emphasized the importance of the process, noting this was the first time an electronic Census was happening in the country, which in itself would make the process to generate credible Population and Housing Data mid-way between the Census in 2015 and 2025. He encouraged the participants of the training to take it very seriously and also take advantage of the learning process delivered by Stats SL.

In his statement, the Statistician General and Chief Census Officer, Professor Osman Sankoh, thanked His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio and the Minister of Planning for the trust reposed in the institution to conduct the 2021 Mid-Term Census, noting that the participants were benefitting a lot from the expert knowledge of the institution with well trained and qualified personnel.

He assured the Minister of their commitment to providing the required training and assistance to the participants in order for them to execute the work assiduously in the field.

The Minister and Team were then accompanied to all the training halls, where they “Bongolistically” posed for photographs with the participants.
