Mercury doles Le100m to Health Ministry

In a way to help curb the deadly Ebola outbreak in the country, the leading football betting company in the country, Mercury International, Monday donated the sum of one hundred million Leones (Le100,000,000) to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.

In a short statement during the donation ceremony at the conference hall of the ministry at Youyi building, Chairman of the Lebanese Committee in Sierra Leone, Samir Hassaniye, said the deadly Ebola outbreak in the country should be a call to all as the disease is not colour or status specific because everyone could be a victim to the virus, thus everyone ought to join the fight to contain and eradicate the disease.

He said Mercury International cares about the welfare of people in the country, and are very much happy to help in times of emergency, thus the reason for the donation to the Health Ministry to help save lives in the country.

He assured the minister and her staff that their doors will always be opened to rendering support and assistance to the ministry, whether in times of emergency or not.

On her part, Minister of Health Miatta Kargbo thanked Mercury International for the donation and promised to utilise the money for its intended purpose.

She said that nationwide sensitization on the virus was underway in every part of the country, although some people are still in denial that the virus exits. He implored the entourage to help in the sensitization by displaying Ebola posters at their selling points and to educate their staff and agents about the disease.
