Magistrate imposes 10-year jail term for Cannabis possession

Magistrate Albert Moody of the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.1 Tuesday sentenced Sulaiman Koroma and James Koroma to ten years imprisonment or alternative fine of Le8 million each.

The two men were found guilty of unlawful possession of cannabis sativa contrary to Section 48 (1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act of 2001.

According to the prosecutor, first accused Sulaiman Koroma was found in possession of six kilograms of the banned substance on 13 May, 2017 at Regent checkpoint, Hill-Side Bye-Pass Road in Freetown, while second accused James Koroma was caught in possession of five and half bags of cannabis sativa weighed 152 kilograms on 16 May, 2017 at No. 15 Taylor Street, Bolima, in the outskirt of Waterloo.
