By Hassan G. Koroma from Lunsar
The traditional ruler of Marampa chiefdom and his subjects, on Sunday, 29th June, 2014, renamed the Port Loko Road to Ernest Bai Koroma Street.
Speaking at the renaming ceremony at the Paramount Chief’s court in Lunsar, Paramount Chief Bai Koblo Queen II said that the reason for their decision to rename the Port Loko Road to Ernest Bai Koroma Street was a way of showing their appreciation to President Koroma for his the good things he has done for the chiefdom and her subjects.
He said the president regards Lunsar as his home, and has ensured that facilities in other district headquarters are available in the chiefdom headquarters, including solar street lights, pipe born water, free healthcare, good roads and a soon to be commissioned power house that will supply electricity to the township and its environs.
“This man has done a lot not only for my chiefdom but for the country as a whole and for that reason we the people of Lunsar have no money to pay him back but we will make sure that his name be remembered so that even our children’s children would know that the person who’s name is no that street did a lot for the town and the people,” he told an ecstatic crowd, adding that the event marks a repeat in history as the late President Siaka P. Steven was himself honoured by having a street named in his honour in Lunsar for his great work, a feat he said the current president has emulated.
On his part, northern chairman of the ruling All People Congress Party, who also chaired the renaming ceremony, Paul Santors Sesay, said that because President Koroma takes Lunsar as his home town, they in turn have accepted him as son of the soil.
He said the love the Lunsar people express for the president is natural as they voted for him the highest in the 2007 and 2012 presidential elections due to their immense believe that he can take the people of Sierra Leone to the proverbial promise land.
He opines that a president who said he would rather have sleepless nights for his people and sacrifice his life for them, should not be forgotten, and described the president as ‘God sent to the people of Sierra Leone.’
“Our president Ernest Bai Koroma is a developmental-oriented leader who came to take the country to another level; such leader should always be in the minds of the people and one such way is by giving his name to a street here in Lunsar as means of remembrance for his good leadership,” he said.
