For the second time in two years, the United Kingdom based Capital Finance International (CFi) magazine, has awarded the Rokel Commercial Bank for “Best Bank Governance 2020”
The bank remains the only Sierra Leonean bank to achieve such a feat from the renowned global finance organization. It was among over 50 top financial institutions in Africa, Asia and Europe recognized for their “institutional strength and resilience…” by the CFi Magazine.
The CFi magazine further wrote;
“Rokel’s corporate mission has become even more relevant as the country’s economy suffers the devastating effects of the Corona Pandemic. …..the bank has deftly navigated these choppy waters, keeping its nationwide branch network up and running whilst fully meeting the operational target set before the healthcare emergency erupted.”
The Magazine also noted how the Rokel Commercial Bank has stood by its customers with a ‘dogged’ determination – providing top of the range services to increase public goodwill. This, the magazine stated had helped to considerably increase its market share with enviable profit margins.
The CFi magazine employs a rigorous screening process through which nominees are voted globally via its website whilst a high level panel, comprising top financial professionals critically reviews the nomination and make decisions to award deserving nominees.
The Bank has also received a “World Business Leader” Award from the US based World Confederation of Businesses.
The Confederation also recognized individual staff of the bank including the Deputy Managing Director of Rokel Commercial Bank, Emmanuel Borbor, Director of Finance, Abasi Thomas and Director of Corporate Division, Millicent Cole.
The two awards for the bank have come on the heels of another award from the UK based Socrates Committee which recognized the Managing Director, Dr Walton Ekundayoh Gilpin as Manager as Manager of the Year. Other awards include; African Achievers Award, Corporate Vision Awards for 2020 and the Bizz Virtual Award for Business Excellence organized by WORLDCOB Virtual Business Summit in 2020.
In a conversation with this medium, Dr Walton Gilpin believes the recognition the bank continues to receive from credible local and international organization is testament to the level of team work and collaboration the bank enjoys from its majority and minority shareholders.
“Recognitions like these can only continue to challenge us to do more in making RCBank the biggest bank in Sierra Leone and the sub-region. We believe we on the right trajectory and in the fullness of time, every Sierra Leone will be proud of a bank called Rcbank” he averred.
