Injury rules ‘Zagalo’ out of Cameroon clash

OCTOBER 2, 2014 By Sahr Morris Jr.

Khazar Lankaran midfielder Alfred ‘Zagalo’ Sankoh has been ruled out of both legs of Sierra Leone’s 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers on October 10 and 15 against Cameroon in Yaoundé.

The 25-year-old midfielder had been due to take part in the games after being named in coach Atto Mensah’s 20-man squad, but his continuous injury battle means the Azerbaijan-based player will miss out for the first time since the qualifying campaign started.

The injury also forced Sankoh to miss his club’s 1-1 draw against Qabala in the Azerbaijan Premier League over the weekend.

Injury also forced then Leone Stars coach, Johnny McKinstry, to substitute him in the second half of the Stars’ opening group game 2-1 defeat to Ivory Coast, as well as being left out of the squad which suffered a 2-0 defeat to DR Congo.

Meanwhile, according to reports from the technical team, Sankoh’s replacement would possibly be announced today (Thursday).
