Husband remanded for allegedly killing wife

Magistrate Albert J. Moody of the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.1 has remanded one Julius Buck to the Male Correctional Centre for allegedly murdering his wife, Salamatu Faya.

The accused person was before the court on one count of murder contrary to the Laws of Sierra Leone.

According to the police prosecutor, constable 549 Sesay .M, on Wednesday  17 May, 2017, at George Brook, Dwazark in Freetown, allegedly murdered one Salamatu Faya.

In his testimony, Bia Ibrahim Turay, attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters, recognised the accused and recalled that on Wednesday 17th May, 2017, while he was on duty, a transfer case and enquiry file of murder from Family Support Unit (FSU) at New England Ville Police Station was given to him for further investigation.

He added that the file contained few document and statement of the accused person

 “On 27th May 2017, I obtained a voluntary caution statement from the accused. He was questioned in Krio and the process was witnessed by DPC 8576 Kamara I”, he said.

He said he and the complainant witnessed the autopsy examination on the 30th May, 2017, which was conducted at the Connaught mortuary by the Chief Pathologist, Dr. Owizz Koroma, who issued the death certificate to the bereaved family.

He added that, on the 25th July, 2017, he charged the accused person with the offence of murder.

Meanwhile, the prosecution is due to summon another witness on the next adjourned date-10 November, 2017.
