Ecobank enhances financial inclusion

With the launch of the Agency Banking on Friday, 19th February, the Pan African bank,Ecobank has made banking easier for the public by bringing their facility closer to people through the establishment of Express Point where transaction can easily be done.

Ecobank also launched the Electricity Vending,a scheme that would help the public to recharge their EDSA prepaid metres through the Ecobank Access points.

Aside from financial inclusion, the agency banking would among other things ensure safety of customers, allow customers to deposit and withdraw cash without going to the banking hall, allow cash transfers across Sierra Leone and Africa at large, and enable customers to pay their electricity and other bills at any of the Ecobank express points.   

Acting as chairman of the launch,Tamba Faidowoh,who doubles Head of Finance at Ecobank,said the microfinance scheme is the first in the country in terms of financial inclusion, adding that agency banking would not only make things easier for customers but also for the bank. 

Head of Consumer Bank,Isha Sheriff said the agency banking provides an alternative means of doing business without going to the banking hall.

She said the agency banking which would be conducted in various Ebobank’s Access point across the country would help decongest the banking hall and as well create jobs for people across the country.

“The unbanked will be reached through our agents. A revolution has taken place in the banking sector and Ecobank is proud to be part of the process.

She called on the public to make use of the opportunity and make life easier for themselves.

One of the successful agents of the Agency Banking,Fatmata Zahrah Gojikoh of Baizah Industrial, said it was initially  not easy for her doing business with Ecobank but life becomes easy for her as time goes by.

She said one of the secretes behind her success was that she maintain a very cordial relationship with customers by effectively communicating with them, and as well maintained proper book keeping.

She called on her colleagues to be business focused and maintain a very good customer relationship.

Launching the Agency Banking,Chairman,Board of Directors,Christopher J.Foster,said times are changing quicker than before with a big shift in the banking sector.

He said since the status quo has changed, the banking sector should come up with creative solution that resonates with the current trend.

He congratulated the management of Ecobank for making life easier for their customers, stating that the bank believes in team which has made them always be one step ahead in terms of innovation.
