A visiting Dental Medic from Oldenburg, Germany, attached to the Gila’s Children and Community Hospital, Dr. Manfred Mayer, was over the weekend crowned honorary Paramount Chief at Jiaima Bongor Chiefdom, Bo district for his free Medical service to the people.
Welcoming the German medic and his entourage, Paramount Chief of Jiaima Bongor Chiefdom, Joseph Foday Musa, described the visit as a dream come true for his people in that part of the country to have such a hardworking doctor.
“It is with heavy heart that I am appealing to you through the Management of Gila’s Children and Community Hospital to reduce maternal and child death in this area as it is increasing rapidly”, he said.
He stated that even though they have been provided with electricity supply, yet, the community was in need of a VIP toilet facility to avoid the practice of open defecation.
Delivering his keynote address, the newly crowned Honorary Paramount Chief, Dr. Manfred Mayer, expressed gratitude to the people of Jiaima Bongor Chiefdom for their hospitality, which he promised would remain memorable.
He stated that he has served as a dental specialist for the past forty five years, and that he would continue to do the good work with the aim to save more lives in Sierra Leone and the World at large.
National Executive Director of Gila’s Children and Community Hospital, Alhaji Musa Bainda, commended Paramount Chief for his developmental aspirations and encouraged him to continue the good work.
He commended the proprietress of the Hospital, Madam Gila Bennereck, whose dream and good connection, he said saved millions of lives today.
He said the hospital’s focus was women and children, but also caters for all those who would not afford medical treatment – which sometimes includes conducting mobile clinics to neighbouring villages to reach those who are marginalized.
He acknowledged Dr. Manfred Mayer for voluntarily donating to the dental department of the Gila’s Hospital.
