The newly appointed Team Manager of the Sierra Leone national team, Leone Stars has broken his silence over his appointment, a move that has further exposed the deception within the ranks of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).
In an interview with Eagle Africa Radio, Christian Dauda said he took up the appointment as Team Manager of the national team after a decision was reached by both the SLFA and the Sports Ministry following several meetings.
“To be honest I know it is not the mandate of the minister [of Sports] to appoint me as team manager of the national team, but I spoke with him and he assured me he will meet the Football Association officials on it,” revealed the Leone Stars TM.
“After my confirmation by the minister, I called the SLFA general secretary and the president and they both endorsed my appointment. This was how it all went. The only person who was initially opposed to my appointment was John Keister, who later told me it was just a joke.”
Earlier, the SLFA in a press release dated September 29, 2014 and signed by the general secretary, Chris Kamara, had distanced themselves from Dauda’s appointment, stating that “his selection was purely on [the] recommendation and endorsement of the Sports Ministry”.
The release reads: “Christian Dauda’s appointment was purely on the recommendation and endorsement of the Ministry of Sports, which is contrary to the [stance of the] SLFA. Should any player, club, association or individual choose to deal with him on the premise of the Sierra Leone national team, it will not be recongnised or endorsed by the SLFA.”
The SLFA scribe, just after the September 29 press release, stated that they never agreed with the ministry on any decision over the appointment of the national team’s new technical staff, which also include Christian Dauda.
