China Friendship society to provide solace to city commuters

By Alusine Sesay

The Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the China Friendship Society, yesterday launched the China–Africa People-to-People Friendship Action project to construct four commuter waiting booths in both the Western Area Urban and Rural Areas.

While launching the project at China House on Railway Line, Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone, Fan Xiaodong said fraternal relations between China and Sierra Leone has stood the test of time of more than 42 years.

“When Sierra Leone friends talks about China, they usually talk about the National Stadium and the Youyi Building which has become the landmark of the relationship,” he said.

China, he said, has implemented numerous projects in Sierra Leone that brings practical benefits not only to the government but the people as well.

He cited sincerity, real effects, affinity and good faith as the bedrocks behind the long standing and cordial relationship between China and Africa as a whole, adding that in their quest to developing relationship with African countries they do not pay attention only to bigger projects but also smaller ones.

He said China cooperates not only with governments but also with peoples organisations and that the project launched will provide shelter from the strong sunshine or pouring rain shower for commuters.

Chairman of China-Sierra Leone Friendship Society, Dr. Alfred Bobson Sesay said the country has bad transportation infrastructure and that the project, when implemented, would provide some relief to commuters who normally have to contend with both the scorching sun and heavy rains, as the case may be.

He called on the public to own the project and help protect it from vandals.
