Senior and grassroot members of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC),from home and abroad, have visualised a brighter future for the party through Alhaji Thonkla Bangura alias the Commoner, who they believe has the potential to win the 2023 presidential elections.
“Currently, the party is at a crossroads and needs a young and dynamic young man that would lead it to victory in the 2023 elections. We believe in the dynamism of Alhaji Bangura because he is a young man with interactive powers. He has the party at heart and we believe he possessed the quality to bring the APC back to power,” said one of the senior party members who spoke to Concord Times.
With the current political trend, Alhaji Bangura has a mix background of the country’s political geography. As an indigene from Port Loko,Bangura acquired both primary and secondary education in the eastern district town of Kenema, which makes him more potent to galvanise massive votes in the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) stronghold.
Mansurr Koroma aka Governor is the party’s Youth League Spokesperson in the Kambia District. He told Concord Times that, as a youth, he believes in the leadership of Bangura and called on the party stakeholders to consider him the fittest to bring APC back to power come 2023.
“Bangura is an all-rounder, he interacts with everybody irrespective of age and he knows the issues of the country. He hailed from Port Loko, has Tonkolili lineage and above all got his primary and secondary education in Kenema, the stronghold of SLPP.With such kind of mix identity, he has the ability to make things happen for the party come 2023.We need a personality like him to take the party back to power,” he said.
He is born APC but officially registered as a member of APC UK 🇬🇧 & IRELAND 🇮🇪 in 2002 and today I am an Honorary Senior Member in this branch and Presidential Aspirant.
Bangura was born in Nglehun Village before Manor Junction in Nongowa Chiefdom, Kenema, district and he is an alumnus of Kenema Government Secondary School.
His late father PC Thonkla III was a successful diamond dealer in Kenema. He later became Paramount Chief in his home town of Masimera Chiefdom, Portloko district, Northern Province.
His late father was one of the main financial tycoons or backers for APC in the entire eastern province -from late President Siaka Stevens to President J.S Momoh.
He was the owner of the famous Thonkla Warriors FC in Kenema-a team that immensely contributed to advance youth talents to national team level.
He was also a staunch supporter of former President Koroma before he passed away in 2005.
His late mother, Haja Neneh Sesay, who passed away in 2015, was another staunch APC supporter in Lunsar, but was born in Masimera Chiefdom just like his late Dad.
She was one of the most successful and popular businesswomen for decades in Lunsar, Marampa Chiefdom, Portloko district.
