Mayoral candidate for the Citizen Democratic Party (CDP) in the Makeni municipality has pledged to establish a municipality housing facility, if voted for as mayor come March 7, 2018.
Mary Yabonnet Conteh told Radio Democracy 98.1 ‘Good Morning Salone’ program yesterday that, the housing facility will be necessary and would be run on a cost recovery basis.
She was last week selected by the leadership of the Citizens Democratic Party (CDP) to contest the mayoral election in that part of the country.
“Within my first ninety-days in office, I will create a Social basket fund that will be geared towards alleviating poverty through micro finance on a cost recovery. I will also concentrate on education, especially non-formal education,” she said.
According to her, there is a total disconnect between the Technical and vocational sector, hence the need to strengthen the sector.
She spoke of her determination and commitment to ensuring that the city of Makeni and its environs be economically stable.
The former Director of Women’s Centre for Good Governance and Human Rights stated that because she has done a lot in various communities of Makeni, especially in the area of advocacy for right of children and women, among other issues, she is confident of winning the election.
“I am even popular than the current Mayor of the Makeni City Council, Sunkarie Kabba-Kamara. I was the first woman that created and established a human rights organisation in Makeni in 2000,” she noted.
With regards why she decided to pitch tent with the CDP, madam Conteh remarked that because they preach about the fear of God, as well as standing with community people and the marginalised in society.
While assuring to make the city of Makeni an enviable place to live and prosper as Mayor, she urged women and youth groups to throw in their support for her to win the election.
