Sierra Leone’s hopes of reaching the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco were dashed on Wednesday after suffering a 2-0 away defeat to the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in Yaoundé.
Two early goals from Leony Kweuke and captain Stephane Mbia in the fourth and seventh minute of play were enough for the home side as they took a huge step towards qualification for next year’s football showpiece.
The Leone Stars were hoping to get something from the match after an impressive display when the two sides met last Saturday, but they failed to handle a double set-piece play from the Cameroonians who were desperate for all three points as they dominated the first half.
With two early goals, the Cameroonians were very much comfortable in the second half allowing their visitors all the chances. And despite Sierra Leone’s pressures, the team failed to find the back of the net.
The maximum points leave Cameroon at the top of the table with 10 points from four matches, whilst Sierra Leone sits at the rock bottom with just a single point from the same number of matches played.
