Brute thief remanded for attack on cookery seller

One Festus Mansaray was yesterday remanded at Pademba Road prison after Magistrate Komba Kamanda of the Freetown Magistrate No.2 refused to grant him bail. He was arraigned on two counts of conspiracy to commit felony and robbery with violence, contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

According to the prosecution, the accused on 2nd January, 2014, at the Freetown central lorry park, violently robbed the complainant one black hand bag valued at Le20,000, a Samsung mobile phone valued at Le200,000, plus the sum of Le650,000 – all totalling Le870,000.

In her brief testimony, the complainant told the court that the accused attacked her in the early hours of the day as she was preparing food for sale to the public. She said the accused used force to snatch her hand bag which contained both her money and mobile phone.

The accused was not represented by a counsel. The matter was adjourned to 16 January.
