Alleged rapist committed to High Court

After completing Preliminary Investigation into an alleged rape matter, Magistrate Abdul Sheriff, presiding at the Siaka Steven Street Magistrates’ Court No.7, yesterday committed to the High Court 25-year-old Mohamed Koroma alias White Boy.

“After hearing the evidences before this court, I have come to a conclusion that the accused has a case to answer and is fit to be tried at the High Court. I therefore commit the matter to the High Court of Justice for further hearing,” Magistrate Sherriff said.

The accused was arrested on 8 October and made his first appearance three day later, charged with the offence of rape contrary to Section 6 of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012.

The particulars of offence stated that on Thursday, 31 August, at Pentagon-Lumley, the accused had sexual intercourse with a twenty-five-year-old lady without her consent.

He was admitted to bail of Le40 million, plus two sureties who should be resident in the Western area.

In another matter, fifty-year-old Mohamed Sesay was remanded to the Male Correction Centre for allegedly penetrating a girl aged 11 at Murray Town in Freetown.

According to Inspector E.I. May, the accused on a date between 1 August and 19 October sexually penetrated the 11-year-old.

In a related development in the same courtroom, one Mukeh Foday Musa was also remanded for attempted stealing of a child contrary to law.

According to police, the accused person on Tuesday, 31 October, clandestinely went to collect a child from Becklyn Preparatory School in an apparent attempt to steal the said child.

The accused was denied bail and sent to the Male Correctional Centre while the matter was adjourned for further hearing.
