Magistrate Albert Moody of Court No.1 yesterday (Monday 17 July, 2017) sent to prison one Desmond Kargbo, who was charged with two counts of conspiracy and larceny contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
The particulars of offence stated that on 15th December, 2016, the accused person conspired with other persons unknown to commit a felony to wit house breaking and larceny.
The prosecution further alleges that on the same date, the accused broke into and entered the dwelling house of Victoria Davies with intent to steal and therein stole four imported beds, two living suits, six pieces of carpet, two sets of dining room chairs and table, two sharp Televisions, two Television stands, window cotton and beddings, one wardrobe, two electric irons, two toasters and other properties to the total value of one hundred and twenty two million, three hundred and forty thousand Leones.
First Prosecution Witness (PW1), Victoria Davies, recognised the accused as her neighbour and told the court that on an unknown date in December, 2016, she travelled to England leaving one Lloyd During to take care of her Hotel and Villas at No.9 Carlton Carew Lane, off Wilkinson Road.
She testified that after she returned from England with some guests that had booked-in, she collected the hotel keys from the caretaker and took the guests to the hotel.
According to her, the hotel was already occupied by some unknown persons but one Kadiatu Kamara told her that the facility has been rented.
It was at that juncture that Assistance Superintendent Samuel Kamara applied for an adjournment on the grounds that he wanted to have conference with PW1.
Meanwhile, defense Lawyer, I.P. Mammy objected to the application made by the prosecution for stalling the testimony of the witness, but his application was overruled by the Magistrate.
Lawyer Mammy later applied for bail, stating that the accused was a first time offender and was a Sierra Leonean, who resides in Western area with reliable sureties to stand on his behalf.
However, the accused was refused bail and his matter was adjourned to the 19th July, 2017 for PW1 to continue her testimony.
