Accused put on Le30m bail for sexual penetration

Magistrate Abdul Sheriff presiding at the Pademba Road Magistrate court No.3 yesterday granted bail to one Gibriela Sesay, 21, for allegedly penetrating a 16-year-old child.

The accused is before the court for sexual penetration contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offence Act No. 12 of 2012.

Police Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent, Moses Moore, alleges that the accused on a date between 1st January, 2016 and 4th December, 2018, at Tannebah Road, Wellington in Freetown, sexually penetrated a child below the age of 18 to wit 16years old.

In her testimony, Detective Inspector Zainab Bah, attached to the Kissy Police Station, recognised the accused and recalled on 7th December 2019, when she was on duty at the Family Support Unit (FUS) of the said station.

She said while on duty, a case of sexual penetration was reported against the accused by the complainant on behalf of her daughter.

“I issued a police medical request form to the victim for examination. The medical form was later returned to me and I obtained statement from the victim and witnesses. On the same date, I obtained statement from the accused,” he said.

The witness told the court that on 26th March, 2019, together with Detective Inspector Joseph Saio Kamara,he  charged the accused person with the offense of sexual penetration of a child.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Sheriff granted bail to the accused in the sum of Le30million and two sureties.

He ordered that one of the sureties must produce valid NASSIT and National ID cards and that the bail must be approved by the Deputy Master and Registrar.

The matter was adjourned to Friday 12th April.
