Accused gets Le10m bail for false pretense

Presiding Magistrate at Pademba Road Court No.5, Santegi Bangura, yesterday (15th May, 2017) granted ten million Leones bail plus two sureties to one Alfred Mansaray that was before the court to answer to two counts of obtaining money by false pretense contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

The accused was before the court on two counts of obtaining money by false pretense contrary to Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

The prosecution alleged that the accused on 29th   January, 2017, at Murray Town Barracks, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of two million, Five Hundred thousand Leones (Le2, 500) from one Doris Jusu by falsely pretending that he had one Nissan Altima vehicle for sale, knowing same to be false.

In her brief explanation, the complainant, Doris Jusu, said she has known the accused for many years and that at one time, he told her that he has a car for sale for the price of two million five hundred thousand Leones (Le2, 500,000).

She furthered that as a result of the confidence she had in the accused, she paid the money upfront without seeing the said car.

She said after payment, the accused disappeared which led her to report the matter to the police.

However, Magistrate Bangura granted bail to the accused and adjourned the matter to 17th May, 2017.
