Residents of Laminaya community in a public sensitization exercise have expressed determination to join the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in the Pay No Bribe (PNB) campaign.
The commitment was made in an outreach meeting organized by the ACC Northern Regional Office on Wednesday 31st May, 2017.
In his statement at the community centre, Laminaya Section, Bombali District, ACC Regional Manager North, Abu Bakarr Kamara, underscored the significance of the meeting, noting it is imperative on all Sierra Leoneans to embrace the anti-bribery crusade.
He urged people to expose corrupt individuals, as their deplorable condition will not improve when corruption is endemic.
”If this community is to develop, you must support ACC to stamp out this scourge,” he furthered.
The Manager informed his audience that the Pay No Bribe campaign empowers citizens to anonymously report incidents of bribery and petty corruption, adding that the PNB is not prosecution focused; rather, it seeks to invoke administrative actions or systems review and policy reforms, to address bribery in the piloted MDAs.
Mr. Kamara informed listeners that citizens can report through the PNB free line 515, on all networks, the website: www.pnb.gov.sl, or on mobile application in Krio, Temne and Mende.
ACC Public Education Officer, Abdulai Saccoh, stated that the PNB campaign is to ensure that public service institutions deliver effective and efficient services to the public.
He outlined some of the ills that continue to detar the progress of some communities. The Public Educator advised public officers working in Laminaya to work within the ambit of the law as it is a respecter of no one.
”Corrupt practice should not be seen as a way of life, but a ploy to wreck the nation’s development aspirations,” he concluded.
Earlier, Section Chief, Laminaya, Pa Alimamy D. Sesay, commended ACC for reaching out to their community; noting that the engagement brought to light the work of the Commission and the PNB campaign. He assured ACC on behalf of his people to make Laminaya a corrupt free zone by reporting all forms of bribery and petty corruption to the Commission.
