Five accused persons – Pa Alhaji Sorie Turay, Sorie Bangura, Sorie Turay, Idrissa Koroma and Sonny Harding – are standing trial before Magistrate Binneh Kamara of the Ross Road Magistrates’ Court No. 1 for uttering threatening language against one Mavin Abdulrahman Kamara, the complainant, residing at the Moyiba community in the east of Freetown.
The accused persons were charged with uttering threatening language contrary to Section 3(1) of the Public Order Act No.46 of 1965. They were alleged to have committed the crime between July and October 2014 at the Moyiba community, east of Freetown.
According to the prosecution, the accused persons did utter certain threatening remarks against Mavin Abdulrahman Kamara with intent to provoke him to breach public peace.
Prosecution witness Mariama Sesay said she recognizes all the accused persons and that all five of them had allegedly threatened to kill the complainant.
The witness further alleged that the 1st accused, Pa Alhaji Sorie Turay, did threaten to kill the complainant, saying he is a “native man” and has the spiritual means to kill the complainant.
She also testified that the 3rd accused, Idrissa Koroma, referred to the complainant as a wizard and threatened to beat him to death.
The matter will again be mentioned on 20th January for a continuation of the trial.
