Two accused persons – Kenni Amadu Saffa and Brima Nabie – were yesterday remanded at the Male Correctional Center on Pademba Road for allegedly murdering one Sulaiman Vakie, 4, at Ngewabu village, in the Kenema District.
The accused persons were arraigned at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.1 presided over by Magistrate Komba Kamanda on two counts of conspiracy to commit murder and murder contrary to law.
According to police prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent T.B. Zizer, the accused persons on 13 January, 2015 conspired to murder and did murder the deceased at Ngewabu village, Falla-Wondor Chiefdom, Kenema district.
ASP Zizer informed the court that witnesses were not in court and thus applied for an adjournment to enable him assemble the witnesses.
In a brief explanation in court, father of the deceased, Alhaji Sulaiman Vakie, said on 14 January, 2015 he reported the kidnap of his four-year-old son, Sulaiman Vakie, by some unknown persons. He said the remains of the toddler were later found in a nearby bush.
The accused, he said, were implicated in the kidnap and murder plot and arrested in a village called Njambuhum.
Magistrate Kamanda urged the prosecution to produce witnesses on the next date of adjournment, to expedite the trial.
The matter was adjourned until 1 June when the prosecution is expected to open their case.
